Durinda knew from an early age that she wanted to be an artist. Growing up on the side of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, she filled sketchbooks with drawings of nature. With the encouragement of her parents, she pursued a degree in art and discovered her love for teaching others as well. While her college classes provided foundations in design, she credits artist Wayne Wu aws with acting as her mentor in watercolor painting. She quickly gained several signature memberships in Tennessee, Georgia, and Louisiana Watercolor Societies and became known for her series of southern coastal street scenes.

She has continued her studies with nationally known watercolorists Tim Clark and Sondra Freckleton. Her summer studies in New York with Jack Beal gave her the understanding of composition. Workshops with David Leffel and Greg Kreutz have enhanced her skill in oil painting leading her to membership in the Oil Painters of America.

It was on a trip to Giverny, France, home of Impressionist Claude Monet that she began plein air painting in oils. This has lead her to painting on location across the US, Italy, and France. These works are often used to create larger paintings in her studio. Painting en plein air has become a passion for her and she has achieved memberships in Plein Air Florida and Georgia Plein Air. She also is a member of the Callaway Painters. Since 2006, she has been invited to paint during Walt Disney World’s Garden and Flower Festival as a plein air artist with twelve other select painters. She has traveled and painted in Europe every year for the last fifteen years and leads workshops there for her students.

Her award winning works are included in many corporate as well as private collections and she accepts a limited number of commissions yearly. Several southeastern galleries represent her and she exhibits in regional and national shows. She maintains a studio overlooking a golf course in northwest Georgia where she lives with husband Bill and cat Clarice. Winters will find her painting in Siesta Key, FL.

As a popular instructor, Durinda offers workshops in watercolor and oil painting on locations in the southeast and abroad in France and Italy. Currently she teaches weekly painting classes at Townsend Atelier, Chattanooga, TN. As a workshop instructor, she has taught on location at Callaway Gardens, Amelia Island, Blue Mountain Beach, and Lookout Mountain to name a few. She has been an instructor for Il Chiostro in Tuscany for two years and also has taught for La Bonne Etoile in France. Information about her weekly classes and upcoming workshops is updated regularly on her website.
